Introduction
Welcome to BMS 146, Human Form and Function! Please read the information on this page very carefully so you know which textbook to purchase and how to access the materials for this online course. The course website on WebCT Vista will be available on January 28th. This page is for introduction only. All the course materials will be at the WebCT Vista site.

Course Description
BMS 146 is a course primarily designed for students in the Health Information Technology (HIT) Program who wish to study Human Anatomy and Physiology. In this course you will learn about the basic structure and function of the human body.

Those students who are looking to take an Anatomy and Physiology course for the clinical health professions (Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dental Hygiene, Physician's Assistant, etc.) should NOT take this class. Anatomy and Physiology classes that have a lab (BMS 107 and BMS 108) are more appropriate courses for these majors.

Human Form and Function is a course for people who can work independently. You should be prepared to spend several hours each week working on the course. Web based courses are not necessarily easier. They are just more convenient to your schedule and location.

Textbook
We will be using the Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology by Seeley, Stephens and Tate – 6th Edition – published by McGraw-Hill (ISBN 0073228052). This is available at the SBCC bookstore where you can pick up the book in person or order the text via their web site at http://www.sbccbooks.com. If that does not work, call the bookstore textbook manager at (805) 965-0581 extension 2870. Purchasing through the bookstore will begin on January 7, 2008. The bookstore may also include some recommended materials under our course listing, such as laminated sudy guides. These materials are NOT required for the course. Only the textbook listed above is required.

WebCT Vista
In order to access the course, you can go to this web site: http://www.sbcc.edu/vista or go to the SBCC homepage and click on WebCT Vista. Follow the directions that are provided there for BMS 146, section #55954. You will have a user name and password. Follow the instructions for logging in. I encourage you to login to WebCT Vista as early as January 14th so that you may resolve any technical issues before the semester begins. The course itself will not begin until January 28th.

Do not use the normal browser buttons on your computer (the “back button” for example). WebCT Vista works best if the internal buttons are used.
